Dear Parents,

Your children will be learning about Ancient Greece.  The Greeks made many contributions to present society, and our lives today are greatly influenced by the ancient Greeks!  Did you know the ancient Greeks created and transformed things like:

  • trial by jury
  • tragedy and comedy theater
  • myths
  • democracy
  • The Olympics
  • sculpture
  • epic Poetry
  • architecture

Our lives would be extremely different today if it wasn’t for the ancient Greeks.  It is important to understand what their lives were like.  The more you know about ancient Greece, the more you will know and understand about your own life today.  A good portion of our Greek study will be on mythology of Greece.

Also, we will be working collaboratively with Mr. Hogan’s class on creative dramatics, SCAMPER, and Shakespeare.

GATE classes will begin the week of August 23rd.  Please bring the following supplies on your first day.

Pretty Scary, right?

We will be studying Greek Mythodology these next few weeks and the students will want to learn about Medusa.  Well, this week we will learn about her.  How did she come about to be such a scary monster?  What happened to her when she was slain?  Ever heard of Pegasus?  These questions will be researched this week.

Beside learning about Medusa, we will learn about the myth of Echo and Narcissus through readers theater.  What moral does this story tell us today?

Don’t forget our book discussion and blog on Chasing Vermeer.  It is really getting good.   When we were through with our blog, we went to http://www.nga.gov/education/classroom/interactive/arcade.htm and then http://www.schoolsliaison.org.uk/kids/preload.htm
