Welcome Back!

It’s here again – the beginning of school.  I hope you had fun this summer but you kept on learning and tried a few creative activities to spark your mind!  I guess you may have noticed, I am moving back to 4th grade GATE.  I enjoyed teaching 5th grade and having this same group of students for two years but I felt it was time to go back to my roots – 4th grade:)

It is going to be a great year. You are going to learn so much and I am going to learn so much along the way with you.  I don’t know everything we will be learning this year as I try to take your interest in mind.  I know a few things I enjoy learning along with you – life science – well, really any science at all.  Because of donorschoose.org, we have owl pellets and frogs just ready to dissect. Sound like fun?  Don’t forget – I also love to delve into mythology, especially Greek mythology.  We can learn a lot about our civilization while learning about the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians.  And of course, if you know anything about me, I LOVE technology.  Technology really gives us a chance to be able to showcase what we have learned.  Oh, I forgot.  We will get to do a little birding this year, too.  The Birmingham Audubon Society will be coming to see us and teaching us a lot about birds and this great hobby of birding and making us think like an ornithologist!  If you have never used binoculars, you will get a chance to learn how to use them the correct way.

Who knows what else we will learn and do.  It’s up to you!  I know we have a trip to McWane and the Botanical Gardens.

Looking forward to another great year in GATE!

24/7 Science

Don’t get bored this summer!  Try some of these activities and games and grow your brain.
