Weebly, Edmodo, and Gaggle

This year I have added Edmodo do our repertoire of tech usage.  I absolutely love it.  In the past, I relied on Gaggle to communicate with my students via the internet but since I was using the free version, it was a little too busy looking and confusing for my students.  Once they caught on to Edmodo, the class is loving it.  I post assignments, which usually involves something we are doing in class.  They love the “badges” they are awarded when completing an assignment.  Some are getting pretty competitive on who is earning the most badges.  I also name a “Weebly Page of the Week” on our Edmodo page.

Weebly is also a hit this year.  It’s a tool where the students can create their own web page and blog.  What I like most about it is that their sites are password protected and I also have it set where all comments to their blogs must be approved by me first.  You can see our class Weebly page at  It has great tools and they are learning to add plug-ins to make it more interesting.  There are many free games online that are kid friendly that include their html code.  My students are learning how to add a game to customize their site.  Also, they have found a great news feed – dogonews – more about that later where they can add news to their site.
